OUR GOAL FOR THE 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR: SHADE EVERY SCHOOL

Every child deserves a safer place to play, learn, practice, and gather outside.

Project Sun Safe was founded right here in Decatur with a simple mission: to keep children safe through sun-safety education and better access to outdoor shade.

When we first started, we set an ambitious goal to reach every public school in Morgan County with free sun-safety resources and portable shade. We have made meaningful progress, including shading 7 local schools and providing funds to many others, but there are still schools waiting for the equipment they need to protect students.

Now, we are asking our community to help us finish what we started.

This fundraiser will purchase portable shade equipment for the remaining schools in our area. Donors may help purchase an individual item, sponsor a complete shade package, or donate approved equipment directly.

Every donation matters. Your gift will help cover shade equipment, storage supplies, delivery, replacement parts, anchoring equipment, and free sun-safety resources for schools.

Provide one large, portable shade umbrella that teachers and staff can use during recess, outdoor instruction, field days, athletic activities, special events, and other time spent outside.

Portable shade only works when schools can store it properly and move it where it is needed. Your gift will provide a durable rolling cart designed to hold and transport multiple umbrellas.

Provide a heavy-duty portable shade tent, carrying case, weights, and anchoring supplies. A tent can create an immediate shaded gathering space for outdoor classes, school events, field days, athletics, and emergency needs.

Sponsor a complete portable-shade package for one school of your choice. The package will include:

• Three portable shade umbrellas
• One rolling umbrella storage and transport cart
• One heavy-duty portable shade tent
• Tent weights and anchoring supplies
• Protective storage equipment
• Delivery and coordination with the school

Help us move twice as close to the finish line by providing complete portable-shade packages for two schools of your choice. 

Businesses, churches, civic organizations, foundations, and community groups can help equip multiple schools or fund specialized shade needs, including permanent playground shade structures.

Community Shade Partners may be recognized on Project Sun Safe’s website, social media, campaign materials, or school equipment when permitted by the participating school system.
